the problem

Sound familiar?

Most businesses do not call us because a laptop is slow. They call because technology has quietly become a risk to the business, and nobody is holding it.

IT is reactive, not managed

You only hear about a problem once work has already stopped. Nothing is monitored, nothing is patched on a schedule, and every fix is a surprise cost.

You cannot answer the security questions

A client, an insurer or a tender asks how you protect their data, and nobody can answer with evidence. Not because you are careless — because no one has ever documented it.

Nobody owns the technology roadmap

Decisions get made under pressure, licences renew without review, and spend creeps up without anyone able to say what it is actually buying you.

Your team loses hours to friction

Slow logins, Wi-Fi that drops in the back office, files nobody can find, a meeting room that never works first time. Individually small. Collectively expensive.

None of this is unusual. It is what happens when technology grows faster than anyone has had time to manage it. Fixing it starts with an honest look at what you actually have.

Technology leadership, without the executive hire

Most businesses between 10 and 250 people cannot justify a full-time technology executive, so nobody owns the roadmap. Decisions get made under pressure, licences renew unreviewed, and spend creeps.

Fractional CTO involvement fixes that. Someone senior sits at the table when the business makes decisions with a technology consequence, and every recommendation comes with what it does for the business, what it costs, and what happens if you leave it. Then it is your call.

how it works

A partnership, not a ticket queue

We do not start by selling you a plan. We start by finding out what you actually have — because in most businesses nobody has written it down.

  1. >_ 01

    Assess

A free technology review. We map your systems, licences, access and exposure, and give you a written picture of where you stand.

  2. >_ 02

    Stabilise

We fix what is actively causing pain and document what exists. Monitoring goes on, patching gets a schedule, and the guesswork stops.

  3. >_ 03

    Secure

We close the gaps that matter most: access and multi-factor authentication, email security, endpoints, and backups that restore when tested.

  4. >_ 04

    Improve

Then we get ahead of it. A roadmap, a budget you can plan around, and quarterly reviews so technology supports growth instead of limiting it.

Onside IT is founder-led. The person who scopes your environment is the person who secures and supports it.

why onside it

Beyond a service provider

Onside IT is founder-led and independent, built on 15+ years of hands-on enterprise IT experience. We take the time to understand how your business actually works, because that is what good technology decisions are built on.

Security is built in, not bolted on

Every system we design assumes it will be attacked. Security is part of the build, not a product we sell you afterwards.

Executive-level thinking, without the hire

Fractional CTO access gives you strategic technology leadership and forward planning, at a fraction of a full-time salary.

One team owns the outcome

From planning and migration through to ongoing optimisation, you are not managing three vendors who each blame the other two.

You speak to a senior engineer, every time

No triage queue, no script, no juniors learning on your systems. The person who answers is the person who fixes it.

Every recommendation has a business reason

We will tell you what a change does for the business, what it costs, and what happens if you leave it. Then it is your call.

Our Tech Radar tracks the security threats, outages, scams and platform changes that affect Australian businesses, each with a plain-English explanation of why it matters and what to do about it. It is free, and you do not have to be a client to read it.

who you’ll work with

Founder-led, independent, accountable

Onside IT is a founder-led practice, not a franchise or a call centre. When you engage us, you work directly with a senior engineer with 15+ years of hands-on enterprise IT experience across the platforms this site describes: Microsoft 365 and cloud, networking, security and business continuity.

That model has a practical consequence: nothing gets lost in handover, because there is no handover. The person who reviews your environment is the person who writes the proposal, does the work, and answers the phone afterwards. Every recommendation comes in plain English with what it costs and what happens if you leave it, and everything we set up is documented so it belongs to you, not to us.

We are deliberately choosy about workload. We would rather look after a smaller number of businesses properly than run a queue.

“So happy I found Onside IT. They set everything up and made running my business so much easier. Everything just works now.”

how we work together

Three ways to engage us

Every business is a different size, shape and risk profile, so we scope and price to your environment rather than a shelf plan. You get a written proposal before anything starts.

Project & Consulting

A defined piece of work

You know what you need done. We scope it, price it, and deliver it — a migration, a network build, a security uplift, an office move.

  • Fixed scope and fixed price
  • Planned around your operating hours
  • Documented handover at the end
  • No ongoing commitment required

Technology Partnership

Managed IT plus leadership

Everything in Managed IT, plus Fractional CTO involvement — someone at the table when the business makes decisions with a technology consequence.

  • Everything in Managed IT Partnership
  • Fractional CTO leadership and roadmap
  • Technology budget planning
  • Vendor, licensing and contract management
  • Quarterly business reviews
  • Security reporting you can show a client

All ongoing partnerships are month to month with 30 days notice. No lock-in contracts. We would rather earn the renewal.

faq

Questions businesses ask us

If yours is not here, call us. We are happy to talk before you commit to anything.

We look after the technology your business runs on. That covers day-to-day IT support for your team, cybersecurity, Microsoft 365 and cloud, networks and Wi-Fi, backup and recovery, and the strategic side — roadmap, budget and vendor decisions. Some clients use us for one project. Most use us as their ongoing IT partner.

Business-hours enquiries are typically answered within the hour, by the senior engineer who will actually do the work. Anything that stops your team working is treated as a priority. For managed clients we agree response commitments up front so expectations are clear on both sides.

Carefully, and without downtime. We start by documenting what you actually have — systems, licences, accounts, access — because that is usually the part nobody has written down. Then we take over in stages rather than all at once, so there is never a moment where nobody is covering you. A typical transition is complete within a few weeks.

We are built for Australian organisations between roughly 10 and 250 people — professional services, legal and accounting, healthcare, construction and engineering, retail and hospitality, property, and logistics. We also support multi-site operations and businesses growing quickly enough that their technology has stopped keeping up.

Two ways. Defined projects are quoted as a fixed scope and price. Ongoing partnerships are a predictable monthly fee based on your environment — how many people, how many sites, and what you need covered. You get a written proposal before anything starts.

Yes, and it is one of the more common reasons businesses come to us. We review where you actually stand on the fundamentals — access control and multi-factor authentication, patching, email security, endpoint protection, and whether your backups actually restore. Then we close the gaps and document what changed, so you have evidence rather than assurances.

Both. Most issues are resolved remotely, which is faster for everyone. When the work needs someone physically there — a network build, a server, a meeting room, a new office fit-out, or a fault that cannot be fixed remotely — we come to you. We cover Sydney metro onsite and support clients remotely Australia-wide.

No. Ongoing partnerships run month to month with 30 days notice. We would rather earn the renewal by doing good work than hold you in with paperwork.
